My practice is based out of my home in the Port Richmond neighborhood in Philadelphia. Unfortunately my massage space is not accessible. If you are unable to navigate stairs due to injury or disability, please contact me by text, call or email to discuss a house call option.
I primarily use coconut oil during massages, but if you need an alternative oil/lotion during your massage let me know. Linens are laundered with unscented detergents. A botanically based disinfectant is used for cleaning surfaces in the space.
There’s a cat in the house, Gouda, who may want to greet you when you arrive. Please let me know if you have any allergies or concerns about being around a cat so that I can accommodate your needs.
Draping will be used throughout the session for comfort and privacy in accordance with professional ethics and Pennsylvania state regulations for Massage Therapy. During your massage, you will be covered at all times, except for the part of your body that is being worked on. A large, clean sheet will be used for draping, and sheets will be securely tucked to ensure appropriate coverage. I want you to feel relaxed and at ease during your massage, so please don't hesitate to ask questions about draping before or during your massage.
During a massage you should undress to your level of comfort. Some people prefer the security of wearing clothing during a massage. If that is your preference, it’s recommended that you wear clothing that is lightweight and form fitting for your session. Others prefer to remove top layers of clothing and keep on under-layers. Lastly, some choose to undress completely during a massage. If you choose to undress partially or completely, draping will be used throughout the massage to ensure that your private areas are covered completely throughout the whole massage.
A massage should help you to feel better, not worse. Most massage therapists (including me!) want to provide a massage that is responsive to your preferences for pressure. Throughout the massage let me know if you would like more or less pressure. Some people prefer lighter pressure while others seek out deep pressure.
Before your massage, I will meet with you to review your intake forms and discuss your wants, needs and preferences during a massage. This conversation will include space to address any questions and concerns about the massage session. After the session planning, you will have time to undress to your level of comfort and settle onto the massage table under the top sheet in the massage room. The massage table is three feet off of the floor and a step is available under the table if needed to get up onto the table. Once you are settled in on the table, I will enter the room and begin the session.
Your session will begin with compressions and light strokes, with a similar effect to a warm-up during exercise. After the beginning strokes, deeper pressure will be applied. At this point, I’ll check in with you about pressure preferences. If you find that your preferences around pressure or where you are being massaged change during the session, just let me know. A massage is time for you to be cared for and I hope for you to pay attention to and name your needs during a session.
At the end of the massage, I will exit the room and you’ll have time to dress and gather your belongings. To optimize the effects of a massage, drinking water and stretching following a session is recommended.
